Spring has sprung and all things are focused on getting my flower garden ready, and displaying plants throughout the house.  So, I set out on a mission to find "things" to plant in.  We all know that you don't have to use JUST flower pots to plant in.

The thrift store was packed with people.  I was hoping that everyone would be outside enjoying the nice weather, instead of shopping.  Guess they had the same idea that I had.   I ran into a lady (literally with my cart) that had been shopping since 8am in this one store. It was 2:30pm, so you can do the math. Her shopping cart was overflowing, with mostly clothes.   After apologizing to her, we struck up a conversation about our love for "junkin".  She shared with me the names of a few stores that I haven't hit yet.  Yes, I will be looking for them soon!

The two wooden things, in the pictures below, were very interesting to me.  I couldn't figure out what purpose they served.  On the bottom of them, there were tiny hangers, as if you could hang cups on them.  If anyone knows what they are, I would love to know.  I removed the hangers, so they would sit flat on the table.  A couple of succulents and...taaa daaa...they are now flower pots.

The next picture is actually candle holders. (I think)  Their vibrant colors caught my eye and I held them, put them back on the shelf, held them again, and decided that they were just to "cute" to give up.  In my shopping cart they go.  I must have looked at them 20 times before I truly decided to buy them.  Really glad I bought them....they are bright and cheerful sitting on my breakfast table.  (the picture doesn't really show how bright they are)

I was, at one point, crawling on my knees looking on the bottom shelf.  Really glad I did because I found the next flower pot pushed to the back.  It screamed to me; "Buy me"     "SOLD", I screamed back!    I have this one sitting on my table on the deck.  I love the rustic look.

All in all, my hunt was successful.  I did happen to find a few more things that had absolutely nothing to do with "flowers".  Those will be posted on the next blog.

A big THANK YOU to Donna  for making the header for me!  It's perfect, Donna!  If  I could only find a plate that looked like that in a thrift store!  As most of you know, I collect most anything that has a dragonfly on it.  I always have that "mission accomplished" look when I do find these items. A few things I've collected (with dragonflies on them) are candle holders, pillows, flower pots, mirrors, paintings, a purse, dishes, earrings, bracelets, fabric, and notepads.

There are two ways I usually shop at thrift stores:

   1. When I really don't have a lot of time and I dart through a store trying to eye something that is interesting.  This is not the most "fun" time to go, but what if I miss that one thing that's awesome?
    2. When I have lots of time and I dig through every shelf, box, aisle, and follow the poor clerk around every time he/she brings out new merchandise.  (They tell you to give them time to display, but I'm on them like "white on rice")  I know they must get so annoyed with people like me.

Last Sunday, I was determined to stay home and not go to a thrift store.  This is when I decided that I am obsessed with this.  All day long, little voices in my head kept saying, "You know they are probably putting out some really nice "stuff", you should really go".  I kept telling those voices to please HUSH.  That was a very long day, but I managed to stay home.  Now I'm sitting here thinking that I won't be able to shop this weekend, because we will be celebrating Easter.  The following weekend.......well you know where I'll be.

It's usually a lot more fun when you have a particular item you're looking for.  Right now, I am in search of marbles.  I have a project that I want to complete that requires 100's of marbles.  There is an old metal tower in my back yard. (about 7ft high)  It has a track on it that circles from the bottom to the top of the tower.  The marbles will fit perfectly inside the track.  It will give it a whimsical look and the sun will reflect off the shiny marbles.  I never knew it would be so hard to find marbles!!!  My search for them has been unproductive, but my lovely sister-n-law, Ellen, found a bag of them at a shop in Florida.  The search is still on....there has to be more out there, somewhere!

Before I get in the mood to go find a thrift store, I better close for now and get some work done!
Until next time.......

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my blog page.  Since I am totally obsessed with Thrift shops, I decided to post my adventures so that you will be able to follow me as I dig in boxes, stalk people that pick up something I really want, shiver when I pick up nasty stuff (always take wet wipes in your purse), wait in line to buy a $.50 bowl that I can't live without, pick out only the items that are half price that day (you'll have to get that information from each store), grab an item that you aren't sure you want, but you know it will be gone if you don't hang on to it, and see how hard it is for me to "donate" an item before I can buy another one.  (that's not happening 70% of the time)

I can't promise how often I'll post...if it's every time I go to a thrift store, then I won't have time to do anything else in my life.  By the way, I just had to stop by my favorite thrift store on the way home today.  Tuesday is 1/2 price on yellow and white tag items.  Tomorrow is senior citizen discount....grrrrr, I qualify!

I'll have to figure out how to post pictures here, along with a lot of other things!  Until I master the blog, try your best to follow along with me.

Happy Thrifting!
